About American Red Cross

The National Headquarters of the American Red Cross is located in Washington, D.C.

The American Red Cross exists to provide compassionate care to those in need. Their network of generous donors, volunteers and employees share a mission of preventing and relieving suffering, here at home and around the world, through five key service areas: Disaster Relief, Supporting America's Military Families, Lifesaving Blood, Health and Safety Services, and International Services.

Since being founded by Clara Barton in 1881, the Red Cross has been a consistent lifeline for people when they need it the most. The depth and breadth of their services โ€“ whenever and wherever they're called for โ€“ is unmatched by any organization in the world.

The American Red Cross, through its strong network of volunteers, donors and partners, is always there in times of need. They aspire to turn compassion into action so that all people affected by disaster across the country and around the world receive care, shelter and hope; communities are ready and prepared for disasters; everyone in the country has access to safe, lifesaving blood and blood products; all members of their armed services and their families find support and comfort whenever needed; and in an emergency, there are always trained individuals nearby, ready to use their Red Cross skills to save lives.

These extraordinary efforts are made possible by people who roll up their sleeves and open their hearts to help their neighbors โ€“ by donating time, money and blood, or by taking a course to learn CPR, First Aid or other essential skills. Supported by headquarters in Washington, D.C. and more than a thousand locations in communities across the country, their volunteers and contributors make a difference in millions of lives each year.
